Black Mountain School

To provide students with an educational foundation for life-long success

Principal's Message

Dear Black Mountain families, friends and community partners,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Black Mountain School, home of the Panthers! We are so glad you are visiting our web site, and we hope it will help you get to know our school.

As many of you may remember, I was a teacher at Black Mountain for 20 years.  Then, I spent time as an administrator at La Senita Elementary School and Kingman Middle School.  I am delighted to say that I am a Panther again!

Black Mountain is a K-8 grade school in Golden Valley, Arizona that is committed to academic excellence. Together with our families and the community, the staff and students of Black Mountain work toward clearly focused educational goals. At Black Mountain, we strive to establish and promote high expectations that advance rigorous learning, character development and productive citizenship for all students.

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in the school. When parents attend school functions, they demonstrate to their students that they value school and education. Attending events such as Meet the Teacher, Math and Literacy Nights, Winter and Spring Concerts, parent/teacher conferences are important ways parents can get involved and learn about what’s going on at school.   Serving on committees, such as Site Council and PTVO are also important ways to get involved at school.

Parents are informed about school policies, procedures, academics and events through a variety of channels. The Back-to-School packet, which goes home with the students on the first day of school, contains information about school and district rules and procedures, behavior expectations, the school calendar and other essential information. During the year, parents and students can monitor their academic progress through ParentVue and StudentVue.  If you are unable to log-in, please let the office know.  Parents can also stay informed through classroom notices, the Principal’s Newsletter, and our school and district web sites.

We cordially invite you to help in your child’s classroom or just come in and say hi! We would love to see you. I am so thankful to be joining such a wonderful school and community and I am excited to be a partner with you in your child's education.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts, your questions and your concerns.  On behalf of the Black Mountain faculty and staff, thank you for all that you do.

Shelley Oestmann
Principal
